After 40 years of Business in Grindelwald Rudi Maerkle had sold his Night Clubs and Boutique Hotel and left Switzerland.Rudi and his loyal associate Susy Luginbuehl found a new challange by purchasing the Restaurant Sao Gabriel in the Algarve, Portugal. In February 2010 it will be the 10th Year of successful ownership as well as the prestigous Michelin Star Award. And bringing International culinary delights to the Algarve. Rudi will continue his valued support towards the Restaurant and his loyal crew. Rudi would like to use this opportunity to say Thank You to all the loyal Customers of Sao Gabriel and hopes to see you dining with us again.

Torsten Schulz | Chef | Contact Me
Chef Torsten began his culinary career at the tender age of 15. Torsten worked in various places in his motherland Germany, before catching an itch to travel. Torsten ventured off to New York in 1996 where he worked for Gary Kunz at Lespianase Restaurant. Soon he was working at Lespianase Restaurant in the St. Regis hotel, in Washington D.C. There Torsten cooked for President Clinton, and at the time the restaurant was awarded the best new French restaurant in the United States. Opening his horizons, Torsten ventured out to China and cooked as Guest Sous Chef in the Swiss Hotel in Dalian. He also worked in Wuhan at the Oriental Hotel. After his experience in China, Torsten was invited to work as Sous Chef in Milan for Giorgio Armani and celebrity Chef Nobu. In 2002 Torsten was asked by acclaimed Chef Charlie Palmer to run his restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas. After his experience in Las Vegas, Torsten moved to Florida to open his own business named Chef Grown; a venture that grows miniature herbs for gourmet restaurants. After running Chef Grown for five years, Torsten got homesick and moved back to his hometown in Saxony. Soon there after, Torsten was in Javea, Spain opening a restaurant for a German businessman. In March 2009, Torsten joined the Sao Gabriel team. Torsten enjoys infusing all his culture experiences here in sunny Portugal. Bon Appetite!
